Or possibly some sorta split between all 3 stats. If you want armor + shield + 1h, then you're gonna need STR & DEX mostly. Don't waste more than 1 point on the Nymph.Ģ - Pets damage/stats don't scale from any particular stat, so stats are placed exclusively depending on what type of gear you want to use on your pet build.

Liche King pet is the tankiest pet in the game with Wraith Shell. Wolves need survival instinct (skill) to survive at higher difficulties. Lots of shields give massive bonuses to DA. You need enough DA to at least not be critted, and if a shield gets you there, then use one. If you're seeing red numbers for lots of damage flying across the screen, that's because your DA is too low. For defensive ability, you want around 1000 DA, minimum in Legendary. Just gear up for resists vs the enemies in the area you're in. So you can be pretty tanky for a non-defensive build if you want to be. You get a massive HP boost from heart of the oak, and a heal. You don't actually need to hit stuff with your weapon (unless it's a sapros the corrupter), just tank up and put deathchill aura effect on enemies + plague and let your pets do the heavy lifting. It's my opinion that sword & board soothsayer is the best kinda soothsayer, anyway. The only thing you give up by using a staff over 1h + shield is that staves can roll pet bonuses, but if you're getting instagibbed, pet bonuses aren't really helping any. If you're having survivability problems, you can always use a 1h + shield instead of a staff to get some extra defenses and resists from the shield slot. Something like a soothsayer (Spirit + Nature) is a good class for a new player.
